David M. Joyner, a member of the Penn State University board of trustees for more than a decade, has been named acting athletic director.
The school announced the move Wednesday. Mark Sherburne, who took over for Tim Curley in the wake of the child sex-abuse scandal involving retired football assistant Jerry Sandusky, has returned to his duties as associate athletic director.
A Penn State Distinguished Alumnus and board member since 2000, Joyner will suspend his membership for the new job.
"Dave Joyner has served the board with integrity, and he is internationally known for his work with the U.S. Olympic Committee. I am confident that he will bring that same integrity to his new role," Penn State president Rodney Erickson said in a statement.
