Week 14 picks: LSU, Oregon, and Oklahoma will claim titles

The tailspin continues. I haven't been so bad this month where you could do that opposite thing to find winners, but I'd encourage you to look at Mr. Dodd's picks. The guy is on fire! Me? I just went 7-9 last week against the line to drop me to three under .500 against the number. The good: picking Stanford to have no trouble with Notre Dame. The bad: picking Texas Tech to almost knock off Baylor. The ugly: picking Virginia Tech to barely beat UVA. Here are this week's guesses:

West Virginia 31, South Florida 24: The Bulls have been brutal on Thursday night games, going 0-7 (they got thumped by a mediocre Pitt team earlier this season). Look for the trend to continue for the team that has lost six of its past seven.

Oregon 48, UCLA 20: Rick Neuheisel's last game and it's hard to expect the Bruins can hang with the Ducks' speed, but I do think UCLA will put up a fight for the first half before getting overwhelmed. Pregame: UCLA-Oregon

LSU 27, Georgia 10: People may say the Tigers can still get to the BCS title game with a loss here, but don't look for the LSU D to go easy on the Dawgs. I can see Aaron Murray doing a little damage on them, but ultimately this LSU defense is so much better than anything UGA has faced and they'll take over in the second half. Pregame: Georgia-LSU

Oklahoma 37, Oklahoma State 31: As banged-up as the Sooners are, and as shaky as their secondary has been at times, my hunch is Bob Stoops will find a way for them to get a W here as Landry Jones responds with a big game against the No. 64 defense in the country. Pregame: Oklahoma-Oklahoma State

Virginia Tech 31, Clemson 20: Two teams that are going in opposite directions. The Tigers have flatlined and look out of gas, while Tech QB Logan Thomas has really blossomed since facing Clemson earlier this season. He has thrown 14 TDs against just two INTs to go with nine more rushing touchdowns since Tech got drubbed 23-3. Different story this time around. Pregame: Virginia Tech-Clemson

Houston 52, Southern Mississippi 21: There's a very good chance both programs will have different head coaches two weeks from now -- both Kevin Sumlin and Larry Fedora are hot commodities. Sumlin has a better team, especially on offense, and the Cougars should be too explosive for the USM secondary. Pregame: Southern Mississippi-Houston

Boise State 62, New Mexico 7: The Lobos' nightmarish season continues for one more week. They've been held to 10 points or fewer in five of their past six games, and they've been blown out by a lot worse teams than Boise.

Wisconsin 20, Michigan State 13: The Badgers get revenge on MSU, but I don't see Montee Ball running wild against the very solid Spartans defense. Pregame: Wisconsin-Michigan State

Kansas State 41, Iowa State 24: ISU's Paul Rhoads is a whiz at knocking off top 15 teams, but I don't see Bill Snyder's team getting tripped up to not get their 10-win season. KSU has a knack for getting turnovers and ISU has a penchant for giving them (99th in turnover margin). The Cyclones run defense also is ripe (98th in the nation) for the 'Cats ground attack to get cranked up.

TCU 55, UNLV 10: Gary Patterson's team has had some time off and won't get caught napping against UNLV. The Horned Frogs D should get a lot of pressure on the UNLV backfield; the Rebels are 104th in the nation in sacks allowed.

Baylor 28, Texas 24: The Heisman hangs in the balance for Robert Griffin III, but this is a very athletic and tricky defense Manny Diaz has. I could see the Horns getting a few picks and forcing RG3 into some mistakes, but in the end, his gifted WRs get the best of the young UT secondary. Pregame: Texas-Baylor
