Adewale Ojomo had hoped to get a sixth year of eligibility in a rare way, but the NCAA denied the Miami defensive lineman, according to the Miami Herald.

Ojomo had missed the 2009 season with a broken jaw after a teammate sucker-punched him in the locker room during the preseason. But Ojomo was basing the request for an extra year of eligibility on his true freshman season of 2007 when he redshirted, according to the paper.

Ojomo tried to make a case he had missed that season not just because of a regular redshirt freshman case, but due to a groin injury as well.

The lineman had told the Herald last month he had difficulty locating paperwork necessary to qualify.

Ojomo started seven of the Hurricanes' 11 games this season and switched to defensive tackle from end halfway into the year.

He had 1½ sacks, 3½ tackles for loss and 19 tackles overall.
