Tressel takes job at U of Akron
Former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel is heading to the University of Akron.
The school hired Tressel for the newly created position of vice president for strategic engagement. He will start May 1 and earn $200,000 a year.
Tressel, who was forced to resign last May amid a scandal at Ohio State, will work with alumni, community organizations and friends of the school to develop initiatives to help students.
Earlier this winter, Tressel met with Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay about the team's head coaching job that eventually went to Chuck Pagano.
Tressel returns to the place where he began his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant in 1975.
"I am excited to be a Zip," Tressel said at his introductory press conference, according to The Akron-Beacon Journal. "It is great to come back to the place that gave me my first chance."
