Southern Miss' top rusher probably out for 2012
Southern Mississippi is likely to be without last season???s leading rusher, Jamal Woodyard, for the entire 2012 season, new Golden Eagles head coach Ellis Johnson said Saturday.
Johnson, who rushed for 732 yards and averaged nearly seven yards a carry as a redshirt freshman in 2011, injured his knee in the Hawaii Bowl victory over Nevada.
He has already undergone one operation and another is expected.
Johnson said it was ???very doubtful??? Woodyard would play next season, but should be able to return in 2013.
???There???s no reason to feel like he won???t be back,??? Ellis told the Jackson (Miss.) Clarion Ledger. ???I think we???re all expecting him back. We all have to be patient because we won???t see him for a year.???
