Penn St. loses a 13th player -- backup kicker wire reports

Penn State lost its 13th player since the football program was hit with NCAA sanctions this summer in the aftermath of the Jerry Sandusky scandal when backup kicker Matt Marcincin became the second Nittany Lion this week to leave the team.

Marcincin, a redshirt freshman walk-on, was taken off the roster Thursday, the school acknowledged.

"He left the team and is still enrolled in school," spokesman Jeff Nelson said.

Of the 13, nine have transferred and four are still at Penn State as students. Starting Shawney Kersey left the team earlier this week but also is in school.

With Marcincin off the team, Penn State's remaining kickers are Sam Ficken and walk-on Kevin DiSanto.

Ficken has struggled so far this season, making only 1 of 5 field-goal attempts. He also missed an extra-point try last week at Virginia.
