CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Blake James has been hired as Miami's athletic director after serving in the job in an interim capacity for the past four months.
Miami officials made the announcement Friday, confirming it after a meeting of the university's board of trustees. It was widely expected that James would get the job, which he first assumed on a temporary basis when Shawn Eichorst left for the same role at Nebraska in early October.
James' hiring comes at a key time, with the Hurricanes still involved with an NCAA investigation into the school's compliance practices.
James had been Miami's senior associate athletic director for development and ticket operations before the promotion. He also was in charge of overseeing some Hurricane sport programs. He previously was Maine's athletic director.
