Joe Paterno's coaching record

At age 82, Joe Paterno finished his 59th season at Penn State as an assistant or head coach. The 2006 season marked Paterno's 41st season as head coach of the Nittany Lions, tying him with Amos Alonzo Stagg for most years at a single institution. In 2007, he became only the second coach to coach 500 games. Paterno holds the record for most bowl wins with 23 and bowl appearances with 35. He also coached Penn State to 37 winning seasons and in the past four seasons is 40-11, including two 11-win seasons. He is the only coach with the distinction of having won each of the current four major bowls -- Rose, Orange, Fiesta, and Sugar. Paterno has also led Penn State to two national championships (1982 and 1986) and five undefeated seasons (1968, 1969, 1973, 1986 and 1994). He won Coach of the Year honors by the American Football Coaches Association five times (1968, 1978, 1982, 1986 and 2005). He has also tutored three players enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and seven in the College Football Hall of Fame.
