UNLV assistant faces reprimand for leaving game

LAS VEGAS -- A UNLV assistant football coach will be reprimanded for leaving a game against Wyoming to attend a boxing match he helped promote.

John Jackson, who oversees UNLV's running game, left with three minutes remaining in Saturday's 49-48 overtime victory to attend the Marco Antonio Barrera-Johnny Tapia featherweight fight. Jackson, head of Los Angeles-based Forum Boxing, serves as Barrera's promoter.

UNLV coach and athletic director John Robinson said the 66-year-old Jackson apologized. A letter of reprimand will be put in Jackson's file.

Barrera won a unanimous 12-round decision against Tapia.
