No. 19 Michigan 35, Indiana 14

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Michigan quarterback Chad Henne needed one half to warm up. Then he spent the third quarter picking apart the Indiana defense.

Henne threw for 316 yards and three touchdowns, and Leon Hart returned a punt 76 yards for a score to help the Wolverines rout Indiana.

The Wolverines (4-1, 2-0) retained a share of the Big Ten lead by winning their third straight game and their 13th in a row against the Hoosiers since 1987.

No. 21 Arizona St. 28, Oregon 13

EUGENE, Ore. -- Andrew Walter overcame a shaky start to throw three touchdown passes and third-string tailback Hakim Hill ran for 134 yards and a touchdown to help No. 21 Arizona State beat Oregon 28-13 on Saturday night.

Hill was playing in place of suspended starter Loren Wade and injured backup Randy Hill for the Sun Devils (5-0, 2-0 Pac-10), off to their best start since winning 11 straight in their 1996 Rose Bowl season.

Oregon (1-3, 0-1), which had won seven straight Pac-10 openers, held the ball nearly six minutes longer than the Sun Devils and outgained them 311-283, but the Ducks also lost 83 yards on 10 penalties.

Walter, who threw for 957 yards and seven touchdowns against the Ducks the previous two seasons, was held to 164 yards on 14-of-23 passing. The senior came into the game with 1,085 yards passing and 12 touchdowns this season, but completed only one of his first five passes for 6 yards.

No. 22 Louisville 59, East Carolina 7

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Eric Shelton ran for 129 yards and tied a Louisville record with five touchdowns on the ground to lead the Cardinals over East Carolina.

Louisville (4-0, 2-0 Conference USA) piled up 549 yards overall on the nation's second-worst defense and reached 40 points for the seventh time in 17 games under second-year coach Bobby Petrino.

The Cardinals, third in the nation in scoring defense, forced five turnovers and converted three into touchdowns in their last tuneup before an Oct. 14 date with fourth-ranked Miami.

No. 23 Boise State 39, Southern Methodist 20

BOISE, Idaho -- Jared Zabransky threw for 190 yards and two touchdowns to lead Boise State past Southern Methodist, extending the longest winning streak in the nation to 16 games.

Zabransky completed 20 of 31 passes before leaving after three quarters and the Broncos (5-0, 2-0 Western Athletic) won at home for the 22nd straight time.

SMU (1-4, 1-1), which had ended a 15-game losing streak last week, made it closer than last year's 45-3 loss to the Broncos in Dallas. SMU got to 28-14 early in the third quarter, when the Broncos took command for good. Despite the early inconsistency, Boise State still gained 426 yards and held the Mustangs to 305, nearly half of which came in the fourth quarter after the game had been decided.

No. 25 Oklahoma State 36, Iowa State 7

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Vernand Morency rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns and Jason Ricks kicked three field goals to lead Oklahoma State past Iowa State.

The Cowboys, plus-13 in turnover margin this season, forced four Cyclones fumbles and used stingy defense to set up short scoring drives as they improved to 4-0 for the first time since 1997.

Jamie Thompson caused two fumbles and recovered another for Oklahoma State (1-0 Big 12). The Cowboys, who led 23-0 at halftime, held the Cyclones (2-2, 0-1) to just 59 yards rushing on 37 carries.
