The Tangerine Bowl has changed his name, becoming the Champs Sports Bowl.
Champs Sports and Florida Citrus Sports announced a multiyear contract
with the Bradenton, Fla.-based athletic clothing retailer for the Dec.
21 game in Orlando, which pits teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference
and the Big 12.
"As the premiere mall destination for the core sports enthusiast, it is
a natural fit for Champs Sports to partner with FCS for the Champs
Sports Bowl," said Rob Brodersen, vice president of marketing at Champs
Sports. "We are excited to build upon our athletic heritage with this
high profile college bowl game and strengthen our relationship with the
core football fan."
In support of the game, Champs Sports stores in the Orlando market, as
well as the markets of the competing teams, will carry Champs Sports
Bowl apparel and accessories. The stores will also carry gear specific
to the two ACC and Big 12 rival teams.
This year's Champs Sports Bowl marks the 15th year of the game and
fourth in Orlando. Before moving to Orlando in 2001, the game was played
at Pro Player Stadium in Miami as the Blockbuster Bowl (1990-93),
Carquest Bowl (1994-97) and Micron PC Bowl (1998-2000).
