TACOMA, Wash. -- Former Pacific Lutheran football coach Frosty Westering
was added Thursday to the College Football Hall of Fame.
Westering was selected as part of the divisions class that includes
players and coaches from NCAA Divisions I-AA, II and III, and the NAIA.
He'll be inducted Aug. 12-13 at the hall in South Bend, Ind.
Westering coached college football for 40 years, including 32 seasons at
PLU, before retiring in 2003. His 305 career victories rank ninth in
college football. He won 256 games -- the most in history -- while PLU
was a member of the NAIA.
Under Westering, the Lutes won three NAIA Division II national
championships and an NCAA Division II national title. PLU made 19
playoff appearances and won 10 conference titles.
Westering was a three-time national coach of the year and six-time
conference coach of the year.
Other inductees in the divisions class include former Wisconsin-La
Crosse head coach Roger Harring and players Mike Barber of Marshall,
Kirk Baumgartner of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Leo Lewis of Missouri's
Lincoln University and Willie Totten of Mississippi Valley State.
