Sunday 7: Bobcats had 'em Buffaloed

1. Hey, at least Barnett is gone

The new villain at Colorado is ... Montana State?

Don't be surprised. The I-AA Bobcats own the Buffaloes based on Saturday's 19-10 victory in Boulder. The winning streak is now three if you count Montana State's victories in 1926 and 1927. Yes, CU lost to the same program that hasn't beaten a I-A opponent since 1984. The same program that used to share a conference with Colorado -- the powerful Rocky Mountain Faculty Athletic Conference -- in the 1920s.

CU might want to look into re-admission into the RMFAC. Certainly, Buffs everywhere are going into hiding for a while. The result was this year's Cal-Davis vs. Stanford. An upset so monumental that you wonder if CU will win a game this year under new coach Dan Hawkins.

Montana State is so lightly regarded that Hawkins allowed safety Tyrone Henderson to transfer there 11 days ago, not even dreaming he could help beat the Buffs.

"This was a big win, but we were expecting it," said Henderson, who contributed three tackles. "I didn't give (Montana State) a lot of insight (about Colorado), but in the end, we didn't need it," he added.

Ouch.

This is not the biggest win in school history. Montana State has beaten rival Montana three of the past four years. Call it the biggest win outside of Montana.

Double ouch.

One Buff who won't be in hiding is CU mascot Ralphie. What to call it, pride? The real, live buffalo, Ralphie IV, is a Montana native, found as a baby in the jaws of a coyote on land owned by Ted Turner outside Helena (pause for dramatic effect). No we're not making that up.

She was eventually donated to CU, apparently as part of an elaborate spy scheme.

Coach Mike Kramer enjoyed his day in the limelight. The distant relative to Green Bay Packers great Jerry Kramer signed off a national radio show after the game with the best line of the young season.

"I think I echo the sentiments of all I-AA coaches when I tell you this," Kramer said. "Long-time listener, first-time caller."

2. Thank you, sir, may I have another?

At one point you could actually hear Arkansas call USC "Daddy" Saturday night. Two years. Two routs.
