Boise State's Cinderella run could go even further
Here's how it might work:
Boise State's road to the national championship
Using 2006 BCS teams, these are possible pairings in a plus-one format where the winners of the four major bowls would advance to a selection process for the national championship game:
(Note: The pairings are based on the conference's traditional tie-ins. It is assumed that any playoff would have to accommodate the Rose Bowl's desire to have the Pac-10 and Big Ten champions each year.)
One of the results of this plus-one format would be the elimination of two at-large spots from the current configuration. (That's why Notre Dame and LSU aren't included.)
Rose Bowl: Ohio State 35, USC 23
Fiesta Bowl: Boise
State 23, Oklahoma 21
Sugar Bowl: Louisville 27, Florida 23
Orange
Bowl: Wake Forest 10, Michigan 6
The championship game then matches the two highest-ranked remaining teams. In this format that would be Boise State and Ohio State, the only remaining undefeated teams.
BCS championship game: Boise State 27, No. 1 Ohio State 26.
