SCOUTING THE OFFENSE
The Cougars figure to be a much stronger unit than they were when they faced the Bruins way back in Week 2 of the season. QB Max Hall was making only the second start of his career, and RB Harvey Unga had yet to establish himself as the featured back. Now that both are playing with the benefit of a season's worth of experience, expect them to better exploit the UCLA defense. They still have a tendency to turn the ball over and must play a cleaner game than the three-turnover game BYU had in Los Angeles in September.

SCOUTING THE DEFENSE
LB Bryan Kehl and DE Jan Jorgensen had yet to establish themselves as the disrupters on the defense the last time the Cougars played the Bruins. Jorgensen has come into his own as one of the premier defensive linemen in the conference. If he can apply pressure while BYU plays the bend-but-don't-break strategy in the secondary, UCLA will be hard-pressed to match the 27-point effort of its first game. If the Cougars can't get pressure with their front four, the Bruins may be able to take advantage of their athletic ability at the receiver position.

MATCHUP TO WATCH
The first time the two teams met, the Bruins grabbed a 20-0 lead to take the BYU rushing attack out of the game. The Cougars have become a much more physical running team since then, and the Bruins will have a hard time slowing down RB Harvey Unga, who will come right at the heart of their defense. When he rests, Manase Tonga and Fui Vakapuna will do the same. If BYU can turn the game into a grind-it-out affair, it should have the upper hand.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"On any given year, it gives you a chance because teams are not identical, nor is our opponent identical, and I've learned something with each bowl preparation. Certainly, we made quite a jump from year one to year two. This team has a little different model; they don't take as much work. They practice just so hard. We're looking to gain momentum going into the game. Some teams overwork their players, so I think we're just about right at this point." -- Coach Bronco Mendenhall, to the Deseret Morning News, on bowl preparations.

After being destroyed again, at home, are you folks ready to concede that a 3 or 4 loss season is what BYU fans need to expect this year?  BYU beats the bad teams in the Mtn. West  (SDSU, UNLV, etc.) and WAC (Utah State), but put them up against a quality opponent and they not only lose, but lose big!  As I told you weeks ago, 3 or 4 losses for BYU is likely, as Air Force and U ...(more)

Having a bye week on the heels of getting spanked by TCU leaves way too much time to reflect on how surprising this season has been.  Normally, sitting at 6-2 would not sound bad eight weeks in, but the two losses have been pretty good beat downs.  The Cougars did themselves and the conference good by going to Texas and beating Oklahoma right out of the gate.  The drawback was that ...(more)

Before we get started, this post is for BYU IF they win out, and go to the Las Vegas bowl. If we lose, then its a different situation.

Lets say BYU goes 10-2 on the season, and TCU goes 12-0, going to a BCS game. BYU would be in 2nd place, putting them most likely into the Vegas bowl. We would then face a Pac-10 team, usually around the 4-5 pick or place. Since the Pac-10 has been bea

1) Max Hall: 2nd best pass rating for a single game in the history of BYU. Didn't catch the stat, but the #1 was Detmer against Utah in the early 90's he had a game with a rating of 280 or something. I don't have the exact stat, but Max's performance today was the 2nd best rating for a single game in our team's history. Think about BYU's prolifice QB history - Steve Young, Steve Sarkesian, Jim McM ...(more)

I know this topic comes up at least once a year, but what are your current thoughts about Bronco?  I can't stand him (yes, I'm a Ute fan, but I respected Lavell Edwards, so it's not just blind hatred).  As at least a handful of you feel, I cannot stand his lack of emotion.  All night long, whenever he was on camera, you could never tell if you were winning, getting blown out.  ...(more)

Okay after an embassing loss to Tcu last week's winner was.....................mccuisinart
!!!!!!!!!!!! congrats.
This week the cougars are in Wyoming which is an ugly place to play, but after a loss to Tcu the cougs are going to want to get revenge. I think that Unga has another terrific game 125 + 2 Tds. Hall doesnt throw any interceptions, but only 1 Td and about 225-250 yards. Defen ...(more)

Reading this forecast scares me.

QB Max Hall -- Hall hasn't thrown an interception the last two games. He's fired a total of three in the last two years against TCU and has generally been flustered by its overall speed. Staying on his game, taking care of the ball and running at prudent times -- and not getting hurt doing it -- will ultimately tell a lot of the story of how BYU ends up. ...(more)

Well im really tired of Max forcing throws. Not that im not a fan of him, I just think he needs to go to his obvious reeds and stop going to pitta on hail mary throws for nothing. Thats not the hall we are used to seeing. A lot of people have thrown him under the bus but thats not what im trying to do here. Hall has proved to be one of the best quarter backs in byu history. That is saying a whole ...(more)

I'm really worried about the game this week.  I know there's a lot of fuss going around about Hall throwing too many ints, and that's a problem, but he's still a very good QB and does a very good generally good job.  For all his bad throws he makes twice as many throws that make me say "wow how did he get that in there!?"

That's not the main issue going into

I am going to three games at BYU this year the Florida St, TCU, and Utah games.  Does BYU have any tailgate parties before games that don't mind who comes?  I had a freind that tried to find one last year he said it was hard to find and when he did find one they got pissed at him for trying to join in.  I have a fourteen year old that is a die hard BYU fan, even though I try and con ...(more)

(POLL) Polls should be out in about an hour. After getting bust to pieces by TCU yesterday, how will the pollsters deal with us?

I'm guessing we land around 23 or 24. Utah will stay idle, don't see much change in TCU either, as all the other teams ahead of them won.

(POLL) Well just ehen you think the team is going on the up & up, we get yet another blow. As of today Shiloah Te'o is no longer a BYU Cougar. Bronco kicked him off the team for undisclosed reasons. Basically he didnt do his part to be a team player and conduct himself in a manner that he should have. Players know they cant do certain things at BYU, if you cant "hold to the rod" than dont come to BYU ...(more)

Okay after a struggle in san diego this week's winner is..................Goallthings SD!!!!!!!!!! Congrats.
We all know who we are playing this week. I actually think that the Sdsu game was a good game to set Byu up for Tcu. It wont be anywhere close to the Tcu game, but it helps keep the team's head in the games to come. I think in order for Byu to win this game they are going to have t ...(more)

My friends and I have been doing weekly broadcasts of the BYU games on justin.tv for those who don't have access to The Mtn. And since we all know the commentators on that channel are terrible and know absolutely nothing about BYU, we've also taken it upon ourselves to do our own commentary. We are all BYU students so we actually have some idea of what we're talking about.

If anyone

I promised my wives I would take them to the game this weekend but I haven't been able to find any tickets.  I need 5 tickets for all of us.  Can anyone help me out?

Also, I set up a pool for the 4 of them where the one who picks the most games against the spread this weekend gets to sleep with me one week straight.  It should be a fun weekend with the big game and the co
