SCOUTING THE OFFENSE
The Cougars figure to be a much stronger unit than they were when they faced the Bruins way back in Week 2 of the season. QB Max Hall was making only the second start of his career, and RB Harvey Unga had yet to establish himself as the featured back. Now that both are playing with the benefit of a season's worth of experience, expect them to better exploit the UCLA defense. They still have a tendency to turn the ball over and must play a cleaner game than the three-turnover game BYU had in Los Angeles in September.

SCOUTING THE DEFENSE
LB Bryan Kehl and DE Jan Jorgensen had yet to establish themselves as the disrupters on the defense the last time the Cougars played the Bruins. Jorgensen has come into his own as one of the premier defensive linemen in the conference. If he can apply pressure while BYU plays the bend-but-don't-break strategy in the secondary, UCLA will be hard-pressed to match the 27-point effort of its first game. If the Cougars can't get pressure with their front four, the Bruins may be able to take advantage of their athletic ability at the receiver position.

MATCHUP TO WATCH
The first time the two teams met, the Bruins grabbed a 20-0 lead to take the BYU rushing attack out of the game. The Cougars have become a much more physical running team since then, and the Bruins will have a hard time slowing down RB Harvey Unga, who will come right at the heart of their defense. When he rests, Manase Tonga and Fui Vakapuna will do the same. If BYU can turn the game into a grind-it-out affair, it should have the upper hand.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"On any given year, it gives you a chance because teams are not identical, nor is our opponent identical, and I've learned something with each bowl preparation. Certainly, we made quite a jump from year one to year two. This team has a little different model; they don't take as much work. They practice just so hard. We're looking to gain momentum going into the game. Some teams overwork their players, so I think we're just about right at this point." -- Coach Bronco Mendenhall, to the Deseret Morning News, on bowl preparations.

...the Cougs pulled off the OT win. I can just hear now the outcry about the clock management with a minute left in regulation if they would have lost in OT. I'm a big Bronco fan, but I gotta admit that last minute made no sense to me. Why didn't he call the TO with a minute left? Utes tie it up with a FG, you still got a minute to get into FG position for the win.

All I can say is go

I know this topic comes up at least once a year, but what are your current thoughts about Bronco?  I can't stand him (yes, I'm a Ute fan, but I respected Lavell Edwards, so it's not just blind hatred).  As at least a handful of you feel, I cannot stand his lack of emotion.  All night long, whenever he was on camera, you could never tell if you were winning, getting blown out.  ...(more)

Congrats to the Cougars and their fans for the win last Saturday.  I was at the game, and as usual it came down to the very end with either team having a several chances to win.  BYU made the big play at the end, which proved to be the difference.  The fans in my section were fun to watch the game with and were very gracious in victory (with the exception of the obnoxious guy w ...(more)

Nothing looks solid yet, and I am trying to get my Christmas vacation travel plans sorted out to the west coast.  Is it Las Vegas or San Diego, or maybe another option?  Problem is I need to know for sure if the Cougars are definitely going to Las Vegas or is there a chance that Las Vegas might not take them and opt for Utah?  Obviously, it would be foolish for the Las Vegas pe ...(more)

Here are the official comments made by Max Hall After the game according to CBS Sports:

"I don't like Utah. In fact, I hate them. I hate everything about them. I hate their program, their fans. I hate everything. It felt really good to send those guys home. I think the whole university and their fans and the organization is classless. They threw beer on ...(more)

(POLL) I was looking things over and I came to the conlusion that if Nebraska were to upset Texas that TCU would go to the National Championship game.  The winner to the Florida/Alabama game is going for sure, but if Texas were to lose who else would go? It couldn't be Texas they just lost same with the loser of the Florida/Alabama game.  TCU would be the next highest BCS ranked team.  ...(more)

Here is what will happen on Saturday:

Utah wins 31 to 27.

Wynn throws 3 TDS.  David Reed dominates with close to 200 yards receiving and 2 TDs.  Brooks scores on a reverse.  Robert Johnson has a pick 6.  Shaky Smithson is effective on punt returns, setting up good field position and runs well from the wildcat, coverting third downs, and rush

What do the BYU players do after a huge victory over Utah? Most other schools players would go out and party it up but i know BYU has the strict honor code and such... So what do they do to celebrate a big win like this? I am not trying to mock you guys or anything I am just a curious outsider looking in

Thanks

After a pretty good win in Provo against Air Force this weeks winner is n8dgr*.
We all know who were playing and we have been waiting for this game since last year. I think that this is going to be a great game. I think that Unga will run for 100 yards, while Hall will be looking for revenge. Hall throws for 300 yards plus a couple TDs. Pitta and Jacobson have a great game and combine for ...(more)

Well last week definately wasnt what we were expecting, but I guess their has to be a winner in the end. This weeks winner is IowanForBYU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay this week we have Air Force. This should not be a game that we overlook because AFA is a very good team that gave both Tcu and Utah a run for their money. I like our defensive matchup against AFA though. I think that we will b ...(more)

Before we get started, this post is for BYU IF they win out, and go to the Las Vegas bowl. If we lose, then its a different situation.

Lets say BYU goes 10-2 on the season, and TCU goes 12-0, going to a BCS game. BYU would be in 2nd place, putting them most likely into the Vegas bowl. We would then face a Pac-10 team, usually around the 4-5 pick or place. Since the Pac-10 has been bea

Having a bye week on the heels of getting spanked by TCU leaves way too much time to reflect on how surprising this season has been.  Normally, sitting at 6-2 would not sound bad eight weeks in, but the two losses have been pretty good beat downs.  The Cougars did themselves and the conference good by going to Texas and beating Oklahoma right out of the gate.  The drawback was that ...(more)
