Huskies report: Notes, quotes
--It is safe to say that one prominent Connecticut booster was less than thrilled with the Paul Pasqualoni hire, or the process that led to it occurring.
Robert G. Burton, the chairman and chief executive of Burton Capital Management, wrote and published a scathing letter to athletic director Jeff Hathaway. In it, he complained about not being involved in the hiring process, asked for the return of a $3 million donation and for his name to be removed from the football complex, and said he would be making no more donations.
Burton did say in the letter that the $3 million did not need to be returned until another donor was found, but it added another ring to the circus that was the coaching situation for the Huskies this offseason.
--Offensive lineman Zach Hurd was excited to get an invitation to the Senior Bowl, but had to turn it down. A right calf pull left him unable to play, so he will be hoping to catch the eyes of NFL teams at workouts this spring.
SPRING SNAPSHOT
Practice priorities: The change in coaching staffs means that it will be a busy spring for everyone starting in March. In addition to learning the new offensive system, UConn will be looking for Michael Box to emerge as a legitimate starting Big East quarterback, and to see who will be filling the holes on the offensive line and in the linebacking corps. Oh, and then there's the matter of Jordan Todman leaving early for the NFL, and whether anyone can carry that load without breaking down.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"I thought it was pretty good, it is like riding a bike, you don't forget. I have always enjoyed visiting high school coaches and having a chance to talk about their programs. It was fun to be honest, I really enjoyed it. I wasn't really nervous, I was just anxious to get in and meet them and talk about UConn and the football program." -- Coach Paul Pasqualoni, on getting back into the swing of recruiting.
