THIS WEEK'S GAME: East Carolina at West Virginia, Sept. 12 -- The Pirates have lost all 12 meetings played in Morgantown, including a 48-7 drubbing in their last visit on Sept. 22, 2007. The Mountaineers opened the season last week with a 33-20 victory over Liberty. Jarrett Brown passed for 243 yards in the first game of the post-Pat White era and Noel Devine rushed 17 times for 112 yards.
KEYS TO THE GAME
ECU must follow last season's successful blueprint. The Pirates never trailed in a 24-3 upset of No. 8 WVU as Patrick Pinkney delivered a near-perfect performance, completing 22-of-28 passes for 236 yards and a touchdown with zero turnovers. East Carolina dominated the time of possession (35:41 to 24:19).
PLAYERS TO WATCH
RB Dominique Lindsay -- In his first career start, the senior averaged 7.0 yards per carry and recorded his first triple-digit effort with 105 yards on the ground. His 21-yard touchdown run vs. Appalachian State was his first score since he had two against Boise State in the 2007 Sheraton Hawaii Bowl.
WR Jamar Bryant -- He extended his streak to 20 consecutive games with a reception with two catches for 29 yards in the season opener. The senior had 48 catches for 704 yards and six scores in 2007, but missed the last nine games in 2008 while serving a team suspension.
FS Van Eskridge -- The fourth-year starter and Jim Thorpe Award candidate has averaged 6.5 tackles per game for his career. He led the Pirates with 104 stops in 2007, shared the team lead in 2008 with four interceptions, and was second on the team with nine tackles last week.
--WR Michael Bowman (broken left arm) and RB J.R. Rogers (left knee) will not play this week, while CB Emanuel Davis (right shoulder) and SS Levin Neal (right ankle) are doubtful.
--Two true freshmen participated in the season opener for the Pirates. DT Michael Brooks and LB Marke Powell combined for three tackles against Appalachian State.
