Warriors report: Inside slant
Hawaii needs to draw inspiration from its awful finish to the 2010 season.
The Warriors had an otherwise terrific year with a 10-4 overall record, share of the WAC title and appearance in the Top 25.
But they were embarrassed by Tulsa in their own stadium in the Hawaii Bowl -- a 62-35 demolition.
And they have some work to do. They lost three of their top four offensive players -- slot receivers Greg Salas and Kealoha Pilares and running back Alex Green -- and playmaking safety Mana Silva.
The good news for the Warriors is that they don't have to deal with Boise State this year. The Broncos have moved to the Mountain West, where the Warriors will go in 2012, setting up a showdown for the WAC title among Hawaii, Nevada and Fresno State.
TOP OF THE CLASS
CB Mike Edwards (Coffeyville College, Coffeyville, Kansas): Dismissed from Tennessee in 2009, he is considered one of the most talented recruits in school history. Coaches expect him to compete for a starting spot right away.
DL Junior Alexis (Crenshaw HS, Los Angeles): Alexis, as an offensive lineman, helped turn Crenshaw running back DeAnthony Thomas into one of the nation's top recruits.
LB Brenden Daley (Ventura College, Ventura, Calif.): Daley fills a need for a run-stuffing middle linebacker. He's 6-foot-4, 255 pounds.
S Tigi Hill (Kahuku HS, Kahuku, Hawaii): Hill is 6-foot-3, 215 pounds. He'll add some size and range to the Hawaii secondary.
