Wildcats report: Strategy and personnel
LOOKING GOOD
Kansas State's running game continues to impress. Led by junior Daniel Thomas' 136 yards, K-State totaled 196 against Louisiana, with QB Carson Coffman adding 50 yards. The Wildcats are averaging more than 200 rushing yards in two games.
--LB John Houlik had a pass interception, a pass break-up, three solo tackles, plus two assists, against Louisiana.
STILL NEEDS WORK
Bill Snyder's pride and joy through the years has been special teams play. Through two games this season, the Wildcats are 0-of-3 in field goal attempts, botched a snap to miss another three-point attempt, missed an extra point ... and Ryan Doerr is averaging only a mediocre 39 yards per punt.
--K-State is getting no big plays from its passing game. The Wildcats averaged only 10.2 yards per completion and 6.0 yards per attempt against Louisiana. "As you can see we struggled and we've got to have someone step up and make plays for us," Bill Snyder said of the QB position. "We had some inconsistencies there. The one thing I do know is that they both give all of their effort in practice and in film study."
ROSTER REPORT
--Hansen Sekona remains a player on the move. He started the season as a backup linebacker, went to second-team defensive tackle, and Saturday made a start at defensive end.
--DL Jeffrey Fitzgerald moved from starting tackle to starting end against Louisiana, while Grant Valentine went from a starting end in the opener to a starting linebacker.
--Among those continued to be sidelined with injury are DE Brandon Harold, DE Kadero Terrell and WR Aubrey Quarles.
--Backup QB Grant Gregory played a pair of first-half series, but was 0-of-4 passing.
