Tigers report: Notes, quotes

Notes, quotes · Inside slant · Strategy and personnel

-- FB Shawn Jordan, a redshirt freshman, was arrested for allegedly possessing steroids in his hometown of El Paso, TX, on May 18. He was booked and released on $750 bond. Jordan has been indefinitely suspended from the team.

-- The NCAA's addition of a 12th game has allowed LSU to renew its rivalry with Tulane. The two teams will play each year for 10 years on a home-and-home basis, beginning with LSU's home game in 2006.

-- The Tigers return nine starters and offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher from a team that averaged 28.7 points and 395 yards per game in 2004. LSU also returns 2,096 of the team's 2,326 rushing yards from last year.

-- While new coach Les Miles retained Fisher and offensive line coach Stacy Searels from the previous staff, Miles brought the rest of his coaches from the outside, including defensive coordinator Bo Pellini from Oklahoma and four from Oklahoma State.

2006 DRAFT PROSPECTS: OT Andrew Whitworth - Appears to have made a smart decision by returning for his senior season. Now listed as one of five best OTs and a potential first-round pick by NFL Draft Scout.

DTs Kyle Williams and Claude Wroten - Two of the top 15 DTs entering the season. Wroten appears to be the better prospect of the two as a potential third-round pick.

WR-KR Skyler Green - Has a lot to learn as a receiver but he's a dangerous return specialist.

TE David Jones - A strong senior season could put him in the fourth or fifth round.

C Rudy Niswanger - Solid, smart player who can play more than one position.

RB Joseph Addai - Receiving skills could give him a chance in the late rounds.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"I understand that in 2003 they won a national championship," Miles said, "that the young men who are here have won and won at a very high level. I think that's good. Great expectations are there for people who really look to exceed expectations. If you want to coach and want to play for titles, it's good that the place you represent has exceedingly high expectations." - First-year LSU coach Les Miles.
