Tigers report: Strategy and personnel
LOOKING GOOD
The defense gave the North Texas offense very few opportunities to get going and even when the Mean Green did drive 53 yards on 11 plays in the third quarter safety Craig Steltz put an end to the drive with an interception.
STILL NEEDS SOME WORK
Committing 12 penalties for 118 yards might not be a big deal against North Texas or Appalachian State, but could be in two weeks against Alabama.
ROSTER REPORT
The one thing LSU hoped to avoid in the North Texas game was injuries but they didn't escape without a few concerns. Starting TB Joseph Addai, the SEC's leading rusher entering the North Texas game, left midway through the first quarter with a sprained left ankle and didn't play another snap. "He's fine. He got nicked early on, and we chose not to play him any further," LSU coach Les Miles said. "We don't feel like it's going to stop him from playing next week." ... In addition to Addai, QB JaMarcus Russell didn't play much after taking a late hit by North Texas the last minute of the third quarter. OG Brett Helms left in the second quarter with an ankle injury and left the field on crutches, while strong safety Jessie Daniels missed the entire second half with an undisclosed injury. ... DE Ryan Willis got his first career start in place of Chase Pittman but they both saw significant playing time. ...
On the positive side, LB E.J. Kuale played for the first time all season after suffering a broken ankle in preseason August drills. Kuale, a projected started, did not start but he did record two tackles.
