--The last player to commit to the Terrapins on Signing Day may be the one with the best chance of contributing in the season opener. Nathan Renfro, a punter out of Tennessee, will enter the fall with a chance to take over from Travis Baltz, the departing four-year starter at the position.

--As expected, Torrey Smith decided to forgo his senior season and enter the NFL Draft. He is projected to be an early pick, and graduated in December.

--One of Randy Edsall's hires didn't last very long on staff. David Walker, who was initially brought on as the running backs coach, left to take a job with the Indianapolis Colts.

SPRING SNAPSHOT

Practice priorities: Both sides of the ball have to get used to the likes and dislikes of head coach Randy Edsall, but the defense should have an easier time of it since Don Brown stayed on as the coordinator. Gary Crowton will begin installing the new offense, so Danny O'Brien will find out if he can run this one as well as he did the James Franklin scheme of a year ago.
