Buckeyes report: Notes, quotes
--Ohio State has scored at least one touchdown in 127 straight games.
--Jim Tressel's next victory will be the 200th in his career.
SCOUTING THE OFFENSE
Beanie Wells rushed for a career-best 143 yards against Akron, but no one -- including coach Jim Tressel -- seemed overly impressed by it. Wells gained 89 of those yards on three carries in the second half, when Akron's defense had already been worn down. More disturbing were the five turnovers, four of which were committed by the offense (one on special teams). Todd Boeckman threw his first two interceptions of the year, but Tressel liked the way he responded. He was at home then. Throw a couple interceptions in Husky Stadium and the outcome could be completely different.
SCOUTING THE DEFENSE
They aren't pitching shutouts, but they're coming close. The defense surrendered only two field goals in the opener against Youngstown State, then essentially shut out the Zips -- the only points allowed came on a safety. Ohio State's speed should be a factor against Washington. The Huskies likely haven't seen linemen and linebackers as fast as the Buckeyes' crew. Ultimately, it could be the difference in the game.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"At the end of the day, I think our guys saw some progress, our guys learned some lessons. I think we got a little bit better during that second week. And all of us know we're going to have to get a lot better to compete with the Huskies." -- Coach Jim Tressel.
