Commodores report: Notes, quotes
SCOUTING THE OFFENSE
The Commodores needed to use the Eastern Kentucky game as a chance to kick-start their offense, but they only scored 19 points after rushing for 210 yards against a Division I-AA opponent. Jay Cutler is a solid QB capable of making plays as a passer and runner, but he needs more help from the running game down the stretch.
SCOUTING THE DEFENSE
The Commodores allowed 460 yards against Eastern Kentucky but did hold EKU to one touchdown in six trips past the Vanderbilt 40-yard line. The Commodores are still allowing 405 yards per game, last in the SEC, and 20.3 points per game. They've only allowed seven TD passes, but teams still complete 65.2 percent of their passes against Vandy for 223 yards per game.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"Coach (Kenny) Carter has told us some stories. Really, the basic thing is that it's going to be a great atmosphere and the people there care a lot about football. We've heard some outrageous stories. ... Lots of different things, but I'm sure it's mostly legend. I know they have great fans and they appreciate football and want their team to win. That's really what it's all about. It will be a fun night, especially if we go down there and play well." -- Vandy coach Bobby Johnson on preparing to play at LSU. Running backs coach Kenny Carter is a former LSU assistant.
