Hokies report: Notes, quotes
--TB Darren Evans announced Jan. 6 he would leave with a year of eligibility remaining to enter the NFL. Evans, who's married with a young son, rushed for more than 2,119 yards and 22 TDs in two seasons, missing 2009 with a torn ACL.
--TB Ryan Williams followed Evans into the NFL three days later. The redshirt sophomore, who could go in the first or second round, collected 2,132 yards and 30 TDs in two years, missing four games in 2010 with a partial hamstring tear.
SPRING SNAPSHOT
Practice begins/ends: March 30/April 23
Practice priorities: Job No. 1 is trying to figure out if redshirt sophomore Logan Thomas can be the quarterback to replace Tyrod Taylor. Then there's identifying backups to junior TB David Wilson in case he gets hurt at some point. Improving depth along both lines will be a priority, as is finding a new kicker and punter.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"When you're the only team in the country that's won 10 games the last seven seasons, your name gets out there." -- Coach Frank Beamer, explaining why the Hokies landed 12 out-of-state recruits in this year's class.
