If the Huskies could somehow skip the third quarter, they might not be in the hole they are right now. But the rules mandate that the third quarter be played, even if Washington usually doesn't follow suit.

Once again, the Huskies fell apart in the third quarter on Oct. 13 to turn a promising start into a desultory loss, falling 44-20 against Arizona State.

Washington led 17-13 at halftime, getting 120 yards from a revived running game. But a fumble and a missed field goal helped open the floodgates for ASU to score 21 points in the third quarter and run away with the win, outscoring Washington 31-3 in the second half.

Washington has now been outscored 56-0 in the third quarter of five of its six games. The lone exception was the opener at Syracuse, when the Huskies outscored the Orange 21-0 in the third quarter en route to a 42-12 win.

"That's a tough locker room," coach Tyrone Willingham said after Washington fell to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in Pac-10 play. "Because that should be a very disappointed locker room that I just walked out of, which it was. Gosh, they don't have an explanation, I don't have an explanation for our third quarter, why we are right there, and why we do some things, or a series of things, that let it get away."

The loss put Washington's hopes of getting to a bowl game in serious jeopardy. Washington now has to win five of its last seven games to get to a bowl, and up next is high-flying Oregon at Husky Stadium.

"The key is to just keep working and keep working, and good things will happen," Willingham said.

But ominously, the Huskies were coming off a bye week that they said had allowed them to get healthy and refreshed for the final eight games of the season.

The Huskies indeed looked revived early, taking a 17-10 lead midway through the second quarter.

But the roof again caved in during the second half, as it has too often this season. Washington has been outscored 105-41 in the second half of its last four games.

Once again, a lax running defense was much of the problem, as ASU scored on runs of 57 and 76 yards in the third quarter alone to rush for 227 yards in the second half and 296 overall. Washington has allowed an average of 279 rushing yards in the last four games.

Fall brings me so many fond memories. Everyone getting excited for the holidays, the smell of hot foods and warm drinks like coffee and hot chocolate in the air, homecoming dances, trying to do homework while monday night football is on, oregon fans never making any sense because they just learned what a football is...So many traditions and memories...

But the thing I love most ...(more)

(POLL) So I've had a couple buddies ask me the last couple weeks if I thought Jake would return for his senior season?

Now we have had a couple debates about this topic and where Jake would end up at. I don't think there is any question(looking at draft history) that he could go this year and be taken in the first round. But I honeslty think he comes back, I think he knows he has unfinished bu

Look, if you go to Oregon's message board, they have a thread called Chances of Winning out...They are talking about the Huskies like we're an std that they're just going to ignore and spread to other females...I really don't like how they're disrespecting us and brining up the number of years they've beaten us in a row. Ya'll should check out their comments and fire back at them. Go Dawgs and ...(more)

Does anybody believe in his defense?  I just dont see it.   He seems to put more energy into running up and down the sidelines than calling anything good. I dont know if he understands that he is not at USC and does not have a defensive line that is able to get pressure without help. I feel like i am watching the same defense as the last three years.  I love what sark is bringi ...(more)

I'm sorry to be the one that says this, but barring another huge upset, the Huskies will not make a bowl this year.

They won't be even considered without at least a .500 winning percentage, and right now they are 3-4 with only two games that I think they have an opportunity to win, UCLA and (most likely will win) Wazzu. The other three games they have are against Cal, Oregon (both fro

Hey guys, I don't know if y'all have already discussed this, but I just saw Todd McShay on ESPN talking about Jake Locker. I have always liked Jake Locker and the way he plays the game. McShay said he could possibly be the first overall pick next April. I wanted to get your thoughts on McShay's pediction. I was really surprised with McShay had to say about him. They showed some clips of him s ...(more)

I am going to preface this thread by stating I think this years coaching staff is head and shoulders above the Willingham staff.  I think Sark and Holt are going to lead us back to being a challenger for conference title.  Now I must vent

As much as I like Sark.  The last offensive series was crazy.  We run the ball twice then on 3rd and 1 they t

First of all, let me say that I'm an innocent bystander.  However, Polk scored a TD that should have put Washington up by 8 and 9 with the extra point.  Horrible review!

I give Notre Dame credit for holding Washington for 6 plays on the goal line (three after a mysterious roughing the snapper call?).  Another horrible, horrible call, but wouldn't have been made had t

This was a great win for the Huskies, and is probably the one that will get them enough wins to be bowl eligible.  Have to love how this team has kept after for an entire game, each and every time out.  Yep, there are a lot of areas to improve on, but with just a couple breaks going your way you are 5-1 and in the top 25.BTW, my son is a freshman at the U, and this was his first home gam ...(more)

To me, this is a very important game in terms of our bowl chances.  Get this one and I could definitely see us reaching 6 wins.  I'm glad to see that guys like Goodwin and Williams are getting healthy.
ASU's offense doesn't scare me a lot... their QB Sullivan has been pretty inconsistent.  Their defense, however, has been very stingy and has forced a lot of turnovers.  Jak

I know there were bad calls in this game, both ways, and it sucks that they came at important times.  I was sitting in the opposite end zone of the overturned TD so I can't really comment on it.  I have seen a couple of pictures that support both agruements, both are from different angles.  All I have to say, as an Irish fan, is that it was the most intense game I have ever seen in ...(more)

Well, the football gods giveth (2 weeks ago) and the football gods taketh away (today).  I'm still in shock after that one.  Were there bad calls, maybe.  I don't really care right now.  Bottom line, when you have about 9 chances from the 1-yard line to punch it in, you have to.  I don't know if that falls on Sark, Jake, Polk, the O-line, or the damn leprechauns.  Pro ...(more)

There is no other logical explanation for their performance on the field other than the fact that University of Washington players are racist.  I mean last year, under Ty Willingham, the Huskies went a horrendous 0-12 with multiple embarrassing and heartless defeats and this year, under Steve Sarkisian, who ironically is not the same race as Coach Willingham, the Huskies ...(more)

Come on Sark!  What's up with bailing on your home and away agreement with BYU in 2011 & 2012 to add the powerhouse Eastern Washington.  Pulling the patsy crap like SEC teams do?  We thought more of you than that!

Big one coming up against the Irish! Most ND fans are predicting a win and to cover the 13.5 spread. However, with all the injuries at ND, I see a legitamate chance for UW to finally beat ND. If Clausen plays, I am worried about our secondary though.
Lets bite the fight outa the Irish!
