LOOKING GOOD
Most of the outside attention on USC focused on the quarterback position, especially when new starter Mark Sanchez dislocated his kneecap in fall camp. No problems at all in the opener, though, as Sanchez completed 26 of 35 passes for 338 yards, with three touchdowns and one interception. "He looked very sharp," coach Pete Carroll said. "It is really exciting for us as we look ahead."

STILL NEEDS WORK
Sophomore Joe McKnight is a dynamic talent, but he did fumble a punt catch against Virginia that drew the consternation of coach Pete Carroll, who thought it was a bad decision to try to field the ball. "I would like him to be more conservative," Carroll said.

STAR WATCH
Coach Pete Carroll says he will dole out the carries based on the matchups and who is hot. For sure, it looks like Carroll can keep fresh legs in the game at all times. C.J. Gable led the way against Virginia with nine carries for 73 yards; Joe McKnight had six carries for 60 yards; Allen Bradford rushed nine times for 41 yards and Stafon Johnson has nine carries for 28 yards. The rotation should continue, and any of them could be a star of that particular game.

CRITICAL DECISION
The decision to name Mark Sanchez the starting quarterback was made in the spring, and looks like a good one, considering his opening-game performance. What is perhaps more interesting is that redshirt freshman Aaron Corp beat out Mitch Mustain for the No. 2 spot. If Sanchez goes down to injury, this will be a much-scrutinized personnel choice.

ROSTER REPORT

--LB Rey Maualuga, who suffered from cramps during the Virginia game, collapsed at the airport before the flight back and needed an IV before and during the flight to avoid dehydration, according to a report in the L.A. Daily News.

--WR Vidal Hazelton will not practice this week because of a sprained ankle, but he is still expected to be available Sept. 13 against Ohio State.

--Seven true freshmen played in the opener at Virginia, including highly-touted TE Blake Ayles. The other true freshmen who played are: DT Armond Armstead, NT Jurrell Casey, DE Malik Jackson, LB Uona Kaveinga, S Drew McAllister and WR D.J. Shoemate.

Not sure why we are finishing the year with Arizona and not the traditional UCLA/Notre Dame, shouldn't those two be etched into future schedules long in advance? Why have an open date at the end of the year? I do hope the Trojans can get a win against the Wildcats and keep us in the running for the Holiday Bowl.

Anyways....

We still have an outside shot at a BCS Bowl, bu

If you see a 12-year old blond kid standing on the USC Trojan sideline today, holding the cane of a blind person, you will be seeing Jake Olson. But Jake won't be seeing you, because he was just operated on to remove the second, cancerous eye, having been born with retinal blastoma, an incurable cancer that takes away the gift of sight. He lost his first eye while still an infant.

So many good players on the offensive side of the ball, but Barkley is showing his inexperience the last 3 games.  And the defense is simply terrible.  I haven't seen a USC team this bad on the defense in over 10 years.  I guess that's what you expect after losing so many players to the NFL, but giving up 55 poionts at home???  I would have bet a lot of money that would never h ...(more)

I knew i had seen all 7 Travelers, lol, just wasnt sure of the first year. Here is the story on the history of our Mascot. As a former horse owner of Arabs, i am partial to the brees.

After a fine 28-7 victory over our rival UCLA and the 8th win in last 9 in series, we remain at home this saturday for a final conf game vs the Wildcats.  An Oregon win vs OSU and a Trojan win, would put us in 3rd in conf and a possible Holiday bowl trip  vs appears 3rd Mtn Utah.  I will be back thursday, hava good week guys.

We are subject to so much spin in recent years that its hard to believe that things around the team are the same as usual.
Knowing how we have felt the last couple, I selfishly haven't given much thought how the kids are feeling, then and now.

While Pete Carroll has maintained the mantra, all that has done is make me wonder at the real scene behind the scene, so to speak.

UCLA is 5-5 but:

They were far more competitive than USC was in their losses to Stanford and Oregon. It just kills me to meaure USCs readiness by the measure of their head to head losses.

UCLA's defense has been more effective at keeping the offense from scoring which makes me worry about USC ability to score in this game.

To be blunt, USCs defense has been in disa

Ok, we gave up 55 points and the first impulse is to blame the defense, but more fault needs to go on Barkley's shoulders than the defense.  Let's recap:

Barkley fumbles deep in Oregon territory and that leads to a Stanford TD
Barkley throws an interception deep in our end and Stanford scores their second TD
Barkley throws an interception and is returned for a TD

The Oregon ducks just handed the USC trojans one major ass kicken.  Its been a long time when a USC team was just man handled and that's what happen tonight.  has the Pac 10 caught up?  USC defensive line looked horrible, Oregons running back weren't being touch till the second and even third levels. Good game Oregon is all i have to say. U deserve it!  this is another example ...(more)

Quite frankly, they aren't living up to their capabilities.    I can see losing 3 or 4 games this season - that's understandable giving all the turnover, the inevitable injuries, and eventually you knew reality was going to catch up to them.

But there's just too much talent on this team to get beaten by 30 at home on homecoming.    Yes, they are beat up.&

The lesson learn by this team hasn't had to be learned for quite a while in the Trojan house.
How to get beaten, not just lose, but a no doubt about it beating.

That's a hard lesson for any of us and especially so if the very concept of getting whupped isn't even in the team
dictionary.

Now  one has to overcome the doubts, questions and resevations in the ...(more)

This rival private uniy will never be the Cardinal for myself. The politically correct bs change to our color, cardinal, ihas never been accepted from myself. They play like crap, we have dominated them like 26-7 last 33 or so, and they do not get to wear the Cardinal colors. Ill be back thursday as usual, with notes on the game vs the Tree=huggers.

This USC team is missing something, and I don't think it's talent.  It wasn't as obvious the first three games, as a conservative game plan seemed like the wisest way to break in a new QB.  Even in the Washington loss, I got the feeling that this USC team was severely limited by QB play...they weren't able to play that strike-quick brand of football that def ...(more)
