Holgorsen getting a new deal

West Virginia and head coach Dana Holgorsen are set on a new contract extension that'll run through the 2017 season, sources tell The deal is expected to be announced by the school later in the day on Wednesday.

The new deal averages over $2.8 million per year, which would rank Holgorsen's deal on par with fellow new Big 12 conference coach Gary Patterson of TCU, according to a source. Holgorsen is set to earn $16.9 million over six years plus incentives.

The 41-year-old Holgorsen is set to begin his second season as the Mountaineers head coach. In 2011, he led WVU to a 10-3 record and a BCS bowl win as his team blasted Clemson, 70-33.

Holgorsen has wasted little time energizing a program and developing a reputation as one of the game's most innovative offensive minds. He transformed a team that went from No. 78 in the country in scoring to No. 13 in one season. This season WVU makes a move into a tougher league, the Big 12, but the Mountaineers are expected to contend for the league title in their debut season. They enter the season ranked No. 11 in the first USA Today poll.
