Noles lose star DE Jenkins for the season

Florida State defensive end Brandon Jenkins, a two-time All-ACC selection, will miss the rest of the 2012 season due to a left foot injury, a source told CBS Monday night.

Jenkins is believed to have suffered a Lisfranc injury between the second and third metatarsal bones of his foot, a second source told CBSSports.com senior writer Dennis Dodd. Two or three screws will be inserted to the foot to promote healing.

Jenkins, an All-American candidate, was injured in the first half of the Noles season opener, a 69-3 romp over Murray State, last Saturday. The senior had also been projected by many NFL draft observers this off-season as a first-round pick. He could use his redshirt season and opt to return to FSU for the 2013 season.

The 6-3, 260-pound Jenkins piled up 21.5 sacks over the past two seasons for the Seminoles. In 2011, the Noles led the ACC in sacks and finished eighth in the nation with 40.

Even without Jenkins, the Noles still figure to have a very nasty defensive front. The end who played opposite Jenkins, Bjoern Werner, is another standout pass rusher and just notched four sacks and five TFLs in limited action in FSU's opener. Junior college transfer Tank Carradine replaced Jenkins and finished the game with nine tackles and a sack. Redshirt freshman Giorgio Newberry and Mario Edwards, one of the nation's top recruits in 2012, also factor into a stacked position group.
