FSU says 'misinformation' spread about ACC contract

Thank you Warchant.com, may I have another?

Florida State's president reacted late Saturday saying "misinformation" was spread about the just-signed ACC contract with ESPN. President Eric Barron can only be referring to a Warchant.com story that gave voice to displeasure from board of trustees chair, Andy Haggard.

The ACC just agreed to an extension of its ESPN deal through 2026-27. Apparently, ol' Andy was miffed about the conference going from $10 million per team to $17 million in a little over a year.

In anyone's mind, that is a 600-foot home run for a conference that competes for national championships in football not even occassionally. This guy does realize his school plays in the ACC, right?

Thanks to Warchant.com, FSU-to-the-Big-12 talk started anew. While you never say never, the Big 12 is not in expansion mode at the moment. That could change in a heartbeat but it's not FSU that would make expansion desirable to the Big 12, it would be the school's dance partner.

Don't think Clemson, think Virginia Tech.

Anyway, here is a statement late Saturday from Barron. Pay particular attention to the last two sentences where Barron states FSU is not seeking conference "alternatives":

Florida State University regrets that misinformation about the provisions of the ACC contract has unnecessarily renewed the controversy and speculation about University's athletic conference alignment. Florida State respects the views of the Chair of its Board of Trustees that, of course, any university would examine options that would impact university academics, athletics or finances. At the same time, Florida State is not seeking an alternative to the ACC nor are we considering alternatives. Our current commitments remain strong.

Anyone in need of a credential from all the BCS title games? Dennis Dodd has them. In three decades in the business, he's covered everything from the Olympics to Stanley Cup to conference realignment. Just get him on campus in a press box in the fall. His heart lies with college football.
