LSU dumps Honey Badger

LSU All-American cornerback Tyrann Mathieu was kicked off the team, coach Les Miles announced Friday.

Mathieu was suspended for a game last season, along with two teammates, for what was reportedly a failed drug test. The school said only that it was for a violation of team rules. Miles said Friday that Mathieu was kicked off because of a violation of team and school rules.

"It was a longstanding rule," Miles said. "I comply and agree that that's right."

"Honey Badger" broke onto the scene last year with a series of spectacular plays that got him invited to the Heisman ceremony in New York. Despite the suspension, Mathieu finished fifth in the Heisman voting. The prolific tweeter had been off his account for 31 hours before Friday's event.

According to LSU's depth chart, redshirt freshman Jaled Collins is backing up Mathieu.
