Texas president Powers expected to remain in current position

University of Texas president Bill Powers is expected to remain in his current position, sources have told CBSSports.com.

Powers' future employment had been one of the agenda items for Texas Board of Regents on Thursday.

Powers is considered a supporter of Longhorns coach Mack Brown, who is widely reported to be considering stepping down soon. Brown was in San Antonio on Thursday for an Alamo Bowl press conference.

"My situation has not changed ...," Brown was quoted as telling media. "I want to talk to Bill Powers and [AD] Steve Patterson about the future."

Powers has been involved in a power struggle with Gov. Rick Perry for the past two years. The 67-year old Powers has been Texas president since February 2006.

Anyone in need of a credential from all the BCS title games? Dennis Dodd has them. In three decades in the business, he's covered everything from the Olympics to Stanley Cup to conference realignment. Just get him on campus in a press box in the fall. His heart lies with college football.
