Big 12 issues public reprimand to Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville

DENVER -- The Big 12 has issued a public reprimand for Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville, who knocked the headset and cap off the head of graduate assistant Kevin Oliver on the sideline during Saturday's win over Kansas, commissioner Bob Bowlsby said Monday.

Bowlsby sent the reprimand while attending meetings for the college football playoff format. He said he considers the case closed.

"I guess I'd be less than forthright if I didn't acknowledge we'll be keeping a careful eye on it going forward," Bowlsby said.

Tuberville appeared upset about Tech having 12 men on the field before a snap and confronted Oliver from the sideline.

When addressing local media Monday in Texas, Tuberville said, "I have to hold myself to a higher standard," according to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. Tuberville added he has talked with Oliver about the incident. Tuberville maintains he did not slap Oliver.

On Saturday, Tuberville told reporters he reached for Oliver's shoulder in an attempt to get him off the field and missed. He changed his tone two days later.

Tech is 7-3 under Tuberville, who has been speculated as a potential coaching candidate for an SEC job, though the incident isn't a good look for him.
