FSU nearing one-year extension for Jimbo Fisher

A one-year extension for Florida State's Jimbo Fisher is almost done, according to a source with direct knowledge of the negotiations.

An additional year would lock up Fisher until 2017. He currently makes around $2.75 million per year. President Eric Barron told the Tallahassee Democrat he's in contract discussions with Fisher.

"He wanted a year extension for recruiting, and (Barron) wants to give it to him," the source said.

FSU also gave Fisher a one-year extension after last season. Fisher is coming off an 11-win season, an ACC title and an Orange Bowl berth in his third season. Fisher, the former 'Noles coach-in-waiting behind Bobby Bowden, is 30-10 overall at FSU and never has won fewer than nine games.

Fisher was linked to the Auburn job in recent weeks, but the Tigers hired Gus Malzahn Tuesday. Fisher discussed the Auburn opening through FSU back-channels but never displayed genuine interest in leaving, according to two sources.
