Alabama hiring Miami assistant Mario Cristobal as O-line coach

Miami assistant and former FIU head coach Mario Cristobal will be Alabama's next offensive line coach, according to two sources. Cristobal, who interviewed last week, is in Tuscaloosa on Monday to finalize the deal, according to a source.

Miami scooped up Cristobal last month as an associate head coach after he was fired by Florida International, which finished 3-9 in 2012. A little more than a year ago, Cristobal reportedly turned down Rutgers after consecutive winning seasons with the Panthers.

Cristobal replaces Jeff Stoutland, who joined Chip Kelly's staff with the Philadelphia Eagles. This is an important hire for Alabama, which relied heavily on Stoutland for the development of a stout offensive line. UCF's assistant Brent Key also interviewed for the job last week.

It's uncertain what exact title Cristobal will have with Alabama, but he's clearly filling the offensive line void left by Stoutland.

This offseason, Miami hired two solid recruiters in Cristobal and former FSU offensive coordinator James Coley. Both know the Miami area well. Yet the two spent less than a month together on staff. The Hurricanes hired Cristobal on Jan. 10 and Coley on Jan. 24.
