Alabama expects Clinton-Dix to miss 1-3 games for accepting money

Alabama expects Ha Ha Clinton-Dix to miss one to three games after the university self-reported that the safety received an impermissible benefit, a source with direct knowledge of the situation told CBSSports.com.

Alabama proposed a one-to-three-game suspension in the report it submitted to the NCAA, the source said. The NCAA can accept the recommendation, or deny it and issue a longer suspension.

Alabama filed the report into an electronic NCAA eligibility database.

Clinton-Dix borrowed between $100 and $300 from Alabama assistant strength coach Corey Harris, who, as first reported by the Tuscaloosa News, is on administrative leave. The range of money likely wouldn't result in more than two games missed in most cases, the source said.

In typical NCAA procedure, Alabama deems the player ineligible, then seeks reinstatement through the NCAA.

"This is not the kind of penalty that would be the rest of the season," the source said.

Alabama coach Nick Saban on Wednesday told local reporters that Clinton-Dix, considered an NFL prospect, is suspended indefinitely.

The suspension comes at a good time in Alabama's schedule. The Tide will face Georgia State this week, followed by Kentucky, Arkansas, Tennessee and a bye.
