The American Athletic Conference is now a full-time football league and a bowl organization.

The American plans to own, organize and distribute its Miami bowl concept starting in 2014, according to two conference sources. The American, based out of Providence, R.I., will open a Miami office with employees running the day-to-day operations of the bowl.

An announcement of the bowl, expected to take place in Marlins Park, is tentatively scheduled for next week.

The American will have authority over which conferences it plays every year and will negotiate television distribution for the game.

Most bowls outsource their bowls to a television company such as ESPN or a bowl game organization. C-USA used to run the Heart of Dallas Bowl on its own before relinquishing control to ESPN.

“We just feel we're going to have a team participating in a major event each year, why negotiate with a third party on particulars when we can create just as good of an event and do it the exact way our membership wants it,” a league source said.

Last week, the American announced deals with the Beef O'Brady's Bowl (St. Petersburg), BBVA Compass Bowl (Birmingham), Armed Forces Bowl (Fort Worth) and Sheraton Hawaii Bowl (Honolulu).
