Tennessee, West Virginia to play in Charlotte in 2018

Charlotte and the Belk Bowl today will announce an agreement between Tennessee and West Viriginia for a 2018 game in September, according to a source.

Like Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and others, Charlotte is creating a presence in the neutral-site game format. The city also hosts South Carolina and North Carolina in 2015.

ESPN reported the game will kickoff the 2018 season.

Both programs have been eager to schedule challenging non-conference games. West Virginia plays Alabama next month in Atlanta and opens the 2017 against Virginia Tech in FedEx Field. Tennesse has Oklahoma next year and Virginia Tech the following year at Bristol Motor Speedway.
