Liberty Bowl guaranteed SEC team, will face AAC or C-USA team

The Liberty and BBVA Compass bowls switched positions in the SEC bowl pecking order this season because the Liberty did not get a team from the SEC last year.

The Liberty has also been the traditional home for the Conference USA champion, but that may not be the case this year.

The source of the opponent for the SEC team (currently projected to be Vanderbilt) will be determined after the Ole Miss-Mississippi State game on Thursday. The last domino in that determination is whether or not the Bulldogs become bowl eligible, which would require a win over the Rebels.

If the opponent is not the C-USA champ, it will almost certainly be a team from the American Athletic Conference.

The latest bowl projections have been changed to reflect the swap of order in the SEC, and as tempting as it was to project Pitt to the BBVA Compass game for the 75th consecutive year (more or less), the Panthers were moved to the Heart of Dallas game in the Big Ten's spot, and Maryland was moved to the BBVA Compass Bowl.
