No Miller, no playoffs for Ohio State, Big Ten

Ohio State announced this week that starting quarterback and Heisman trophy candidate Braxton Miller would miss this season after reinjuring his shoulder. The job now falls to a redshirt freshman, JT Barrett. We've seen freshmen do some great things in recent years, so maybe the Buckeyes can still win the Big Ten and make the playoffs, but I'm not going to be so bold as to project that now.

That means a revision to the preseason bowl and playoff projections. The Buckeyes are out. Oklahoma moves up to the No. 3 seed and is bracketed to face Florida State in the Rose bowl. Oregon moves up to No. 4 and would meet Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.

The Buckeyes are no longer the choice to win the Big Ten. Michigan State takes up that mantle now and is projected to the Cotton Bowl. Ohio State ends up with a trip to Disney World! The Buckeyes project to the Capital One Bowl.

Note that the Michigan State-Oregon game at Autzen on Sept. 6 could end up being a tiebreaker for a spot in the playoff.
