V.Y. psycho babble way too early, but bust talk might be late

Anyone who believes Vince Young would ever purposely injure himself never saw his completion percentage.

There are lots of YouTube behavioral therapists and message board psychologists already weighing in like they know exactly what's happening inside the head of Young, who raised alarms after friends, family and the Titans couldn't locate him for several hours earlier this week.

"Young's mental state seems to have moved well beyond a football issue and into a more serious realm involving potential mood swings and health struggles," wrote one website.

And people know this how? Are the Titans handing over CAT scans of their players' brains to the general public these days?

Can everyone calm down please? Since when is a guy disappearing for a few hours and leaving his cell phone at home cause to alert the National Guard?

Turns out Young was at a friend's house watching football and eating wings, not dancing shirtless at a club. Again.

"He said he can't believe he can't just go and watch a game and people need to know where he is 24 hours a day," Young's agent, Major Adams, said to the Nashville City Paper.

Yes, exactly. Twenty-four-hour monitoring only begins when you get married.

If every time the police were called after a guy abruptly departed friends and family for a few hours following a poor job performance, you'd need a law enforcement staff of several billion.

The Titans now say the entire episode was a misunderstanding.

As someone who has spoken to a number of NFL players who've suffered from severe depression (mostly brought on by large numbers of concussions) and the experts who treat them, Young doesn't seem to fit the profile of a mentally ill player on the brink.

Let's just hope I'm correct and there's nothing wrong with Young.

More than anything, Young is a cautionary tale. Too many in the media -- myself included -- were too quick to anoint him the next big star in football before the evidence was completely in.
