Sorry, Parcells: When the herb comes callin', Ricky's done ballin'

"I got that sticky-icky,
I got that sticky-icky ... blue bonic shizzle for yo' grizzle nizzle."
--Bizzy Bone

The cannabis ... it stalks Ricky Williams.

Imagine the theme from Jaws. Da da, Da da, Da da.

Ricky, it's me again. Remember me? Remember how gooooood I made you feel. One hit of me won't hurt you bro'. Just one hit. C'mon.

Uh-oh. Ricky Williams has that faraway look in his eyes. What's he thinking about? (US Presswire)

It's only a matter of time, Dolphins fans.

"(There) was definitely an urge," Williams told the Miami Herald, referring to the temptation of smoking the good stuff during the team's bye week. "But I just thought about what I have to lose and it was easy. The urge didn't last very long."

Are you sure, Ricky? I think you're lying to me, Ricky. You want me, Ricky. You know you do. You can't forget about me. Remember the time after you smoked me and we laughed for four days straight and had six racks of lamb and a pint of peanut butter? Remember when we bivouacked in Yosemite in nothing but your shoulder pads and a jockstrap? I'm The Truth, Ricky. You'll never forget me.

Only ... a matter ... of time.

Da DA, da DA.

"I realize that I really enjoy meditating and when I can go home and sit in my room and meditate, I can get the same feeling" as marijuana, Williams told the newspaper.

Meditation the same as me? Are you kidding? Meditation is my bitch, Ricky. Meditation smokes me to relax."

There's no bigger signal that Williams is doomed to let the Dolphins down -- again -- than these recent proclamations. Miami's brain trust, mainly Bill Parcells, made a terrible mistake in relying on Williams.

Williams has been in the NFL's drug program since 2002 and has tested positive four times. Even Josh Howard and Whitney Houston say another setback is inevitable.

In fact, when Williams relapses during the season -- not if, but when -- it should call into serious question the smarts of Parcells, who put a lot of the franchise's weight onto the wobbly legs of a weed-head.

All Williams has ever done is let the Dolphins down. Parcells should have cut ties immediately with Williams, but Parcells got a tad greedy, dreaming of a potential two-headed monster, Ronnie Brown and Williams, in the backfield.

If Williams fails again to control his marijuana urges, there should be serious doubts about Parcells' personnel judgment, which has been shaky at times throughout his career anyway.

Don't misunderstand. Marijuana should be legalized.

Your Turn: Reader Rip
Franklincounty Yeah, way to have fun at William's expense, even though he CLEARLY has a problem he needs help with. Where's part 2 of the article? Surely you're going to write a follow-up article with the same tone and rhetoric about what Josh Hamilton went through and how even today he must have times where he struggles with temptation. Way to take something as serious as a drug problem and turn it into a mockery.

Mike Freeman: Don't strain your hamstrings trying to reach that sanctimonious perch of yours. I'm sorry but I can't get too worked up over pot addiction. Williams has earned blown (literally) millions of dollars. How many people in today's economy would love to have a shot at that kind of cash and wouldn't smoke it away?

The problem is, marijuana use is currently illegal. It shouldn't be, but it is. In Williams' profession it's a banned substance. It shouldn't be, but it is. These are the rules. If you don't like the rules, go to Jamaica and play soccer, Mr. Williams.

The larger issue is the Dolphins should have seen this coming. Whatever made them believe they could count on a player who has been busted repeatedly for marijuana use?

Williams is an addict and he's in the same environment that contributed to that addiction, if not created it. So here we are again with Williams fighting the primal urges to reunite with his best friend.

The Ganja Chronicles, the Weed Warrior, the captain of high times.

Sticky, icky Ricky.

Da da, Da da, Da da.

"I'd be lying if I said I'm never going to do it again after I'm done," Williams told the Herald.

That's the money quote. It tells you Williams is this close to using again.

Good for you, Ricky. Don't let the haters keep us apart. Who do they think they are? A bunch of punks, Ricky. I've never let you down, have I? I'm your boy, Ricky. Love you, bro.
