Al Melchior is a data analyst for CBSSports.com and has been writing data-oriented columns for the website since 2008. Before that, Al wrote and conducted data analyses for the Baseball HQ website and Ron Shandler's annual Baseball Forecaster series. He also was a features writer and website editor for a series of city magazines, covering markets that included Orlando, Kansas City and Charlotte. Highlights included interviews with baseball stats guru Bill James, Josh Hamilton and Tim Raines.
Al has been playing Fantasy and simulation games since 1994 ever since a fellow grad student at the University of Maryland introduced him to the Earl Weaver Baseball sim game. In addition to Roto and Head-to-Head, Al is avid fan of Scoresheet baseball, an in-season simulation game. He is a staunch supporter of the Marlins, having started going to games in the lean late-'90s years and enjoying their 2003 title run.
