Angels' Mike Trout: Out 6-to-8 weeks with thumb surgery

Trout will undergo surgery Wednesday on the torn UCL in his left thumb and will miss 6-to-8 weeks.

Trout was placed on the 10-day disabled list with the thumb injury on Monday. There was still some slight hope that he would be able to avoid surgery and miss just a couple of weeks, but the outfielder and club have elected to take the safe route and undergo the procedure. Per this timeline, Trout can be expected to return around the All-Star break at the earliest, and perhaps around early August at the latest.
