Smith fired two scoreless innings in Wednesday's 4-0 loss to the Mariners, only surrendering a hit.

The right-hander has now thrown five scoreless frames over his last two appearances, the first having come eight days prior against the Angels. Smith's usage thus far has been sporadic, but early indications are that he will serve as a long-relief option for manager Bob Melvin. The 29-year-old's previous stints in the big leagues have both been on the rocky side, as he generated a 6.89 and 4.68 ERA with the Reds in 2015 and 2016, respectively.
