An MRI on Alonso's left knee Thursday showed no structural damage, and the Athletics will have him take swings in the batting cage Friday to see how he feels, Jimmy Durkin of the Bay Area News Group reports. Alonso won't start Friday but may be back in the lineup over the weekend, Joe Stiglich of NBC Sports California reports.

Even if he's back in action quickly, the A's may not have Alonso start every game during their weekend series as they're set to face three Red Sox left-handed starters (Chris Sale, Drew Pomeranz, Eduardo Rodriguez). His return timetable should become clearer after Friday's practice hacks.
