The Blue Jays debated Thursday whether to bring up Alford from Double-A New Hampshire to replace Kevin Pillar (suspension) before deciding instead on Dwight Smith, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Even though he didn't get the call, Alford is obviously on the doorstep of MLB. The outfielder is hammering Eastern League pitchers to the tune of .325/.411/.455 over 123 games this season. Alford's also 9-for-10 in stolen base attempts with the Fisher Cats.
