Recker was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.
This isn't entirely surprising, as the 33-year-old dropped to third in the catcher pecking order after the Braves acquired Kurt Suzuki in the offseason. Recker is just a .200/.284/.350 career hitter, so he'll serve as organizational depth in 2017.
