Brewers' Jonathan Villar: Slated for rehab assignment

Manager Craig Counsell said Villar (back) is expected to embark on a rehab assignment later in the week, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Villar was able to take batting practice and do some light running before Monday's game against the Pirates, and apparently everything went well, as the 26-year-old appears to be nearing a return to game action. Villar's role upon activation remains up in the air due to his early-season struggles (.213/283/.342 in 59 games before hitting the DL) and Eric Sogard's success at the keystone in his absence (.351/.457/.536 in 31 games).
