Fowler went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and two walks in Wednesday's 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Red Sox.

The veteran outfielder went deep for the first time since April 28 in the first off Rick Porcello and was able to reach safely on two other occasions as well. It was the type of performance that typifies the skill set that Fowler brings to the leadoff spot, but one that he's flashed too infrequently thus far in St. Louis. Even with Wednesday's solid effort, he's sporting a career-low .229 average (factoring out his 13-game initial big-league cup of coffee in 2008), although he hasn't been particularly lucky on balls in play.
